The IRFU are believed to be considering putting player names on the back of Ireland jerseys but it is unlikely to happen soon or at this year's World Cup.
England, Scotland and Italy have put player names on the back of shirts for Six Nations games for the first time this year after introducing it for the November internationals in 2022. Six Nations organisers are keen to promote players to a wider audience in an effort to market the game more.
While putting player names on the back of Ireland jerseys is a topic the IRFU are believed to have discussed with players and their kit manufacturer, there's also believed to be little appetite to make any immediate change to the traditional jersey.
One of the general arguments against it is the idea that no player owns the jersey.
The Ireland women will also continue with the traditional 'number only' jersey for the Women's Six Nations which starts next month. France and Wales have also kept with their traditional jersey in the men's Six Nations with the number only on the back of jerseys.
